I have a similar problem after installing Oracle8 version 8.0.4.0.0 on WINNT 4.0, sp5. The installation is fine. I can even create an OracleService instance and start the process. But, the Lsnrctl80 fails to connect giving the error TNS-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter. I have checked the Installer which shows my TCP/IP protocol adapter is installed. I simply need the bequeth protocol adapter which does not seem to be installed ( or recognized ). This problem prevents even the starter database from being created! The instance starts, but the create database command fails due to the lack of protocol adapters. Help!!!
