You might save yourself a lot of grief if you upgrade to SuSE 6.2.
I know from personal experience that Oracle 8.1.5 will install cleanly under 6.2. In fact SuSE has a nice set of patch files on their website that even fix some of the bugs in Oracle's install routine.
