SQL Plus Error

Hi,



I am trying to use SQL Plus for the first time since installing Oracle
8i.  When I try to log in, I get the following error message:



ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error



Do I need to set up user accounts elsewhere first?  I just need to know
how to get going!
