I think you don't have remote password file setup. You want to connect with "connect / as sysdba". Not directly as SYS.
The explanation for this is in the Help which i'm too lazy to look up.

But try this:
SET ORACLE_SID=YOURSIDNAME
svrmg30
svrmg30> connect / as sysdba
