hardware selection guidelines

Are there any guidelines available anywhere that anyone knows will give us some material on how to determine the number of CPU, disk controller etc required for a specific Oracle application. I understand that business volume, type/number of transactions/users all are factors that play a make the difference but is there any guidelines on the hardware, given the business scenario.
