I thought that was a SMALL data warehouse! ;)

A couple of comments. Firstly, make as much of the database read-only as possible, then you only need to back it up once (in theory - I know practically this is not the case). Secondly, look at whether the data can be reloaded more quickly than it can be recovered (SQL*Loader direct and parallel), in which case it's less important to back it up.
