Environment vars honored by sqlplus

Hello,

having just installed our new 8.1.5 system on Sparc/Solaris I wonder how we tell our sqlplus clients how to find the new service apart from specifying it via the commandline (e.g. "user/passwd_at_service").

Are the ORACLE_SID or ORASID variables no longer supported (what is an SID for a 8.1.5 system anyway)? How else can I configure the clients to connect to "my" service by default?

Cheers,

Herbert
