By the way - what you are thinking about sounds like Oracle Parallel Server, and that ONLY uses raw devices that must be shared via your operating system vendor's clustering software. This means there are no filesystems involved, its all raw logical volumes whose access is co-ordinated via Oracle's Integerated Distributed Lock Manager.

We work on IBM AIX 4.2 and the clustering software is 'Virtual Shared Disks'. Ask your vendor what clustering software they have to support Oracle Parallel Server
