As a High Availability specialist with Legato, I get this asked of me alot. My response back is "At what cost are you willing to pay to achieve/approach this 100% uptime quotient?"...typically, to achieve this, it is MANY millions of dollars in hardware, custom programming and support infrastructure.

There are products today (and yes, Legato has some too! :-) ) that can get you to 3, 4 or 5 nines of availability (99.999% uptime which equates to about 2 minutes of downtime a year) at varying costs...each nine will typically exponentially add cost to your site.

If you're interested in hearing more, check out our website at www.legato.com, or drop me a line directly at winker11_at_hotmail.com.
