ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

Anyone ever get this error?

I log into the Default DB fine if I leave the service box blank. But what I did was create a new DB in the DB Configuration Assistant then tried to log into the new DB using all of the default accounts and received this error. I have tried so many combinations of what the service name is, but keep getting this error. I am so sick and sleepy of this. Could anyone help? I know there is an article on the Oracle website but it didn't help either.

And exactly how do you create an ODBC driver for Oracle? What are those extra fields about like UserID, DB Options, etc.

I wouldn't be bothering you guys if I could get my hands on a good book (all I have is Oracle8i for Dummies).
