Folks,

DB Server: Sun E10K, 20CPU, 14Gb Memory, 1.4Tb database, Solaris 2.51, Oracle 7.3.4. SAP 3.1h/3.1i kernel patch 244

App Servers: Sun E10K, 3Cpu (avg), 8Gb, Solaris 2.6, SAP 3.1h, around 1400 concurrent users, 6200 total named users.

Occassionally an user will run a report with a really horrendous selection criteria that takes one of the Oracle shadow processes to 100% CPU utilization on the DB server. When this happens, SAP becomes very sluggish and users transactions are stuck and noone can login till either the process terminates by itself or is terminated.

Has anyone else seen or heard about this type of behavior or can provide any info on how to tackle this problem?

Thanks,
Binoy.
