You don't need to create a different user but you should use a different
$ORACLE_HOME. Oracle v7 and v8i use different executables. Executables
are placed in $ORACLE_HOME/bin so you can see how the two different
versions on the same $ORACLE_HOME could create problems. We have a Sun
box running three different versions of Oracle with the same user. The
user is ORACLE and it's $HOME is something like /usr/oradata. We make
each database $ORACLE_HOME something like $HOME/<version> and this works
just fine.
