Kernel parameter for 8.0.5 (on SUSE 6.0)

The installation guide (8.0.5) suggests to configure Linux kernel parameter, but doesn't tell one how to actually do it. Even though I have figured in the meantime, where I could change them (/usr/src/linux/include/asm/shmparam.h and /usr/src/linux/include/linux/sem.h), I'm not sure how to them. Specifically, SHMMAX and SHMMNI, since the later is not a simple value but some construction, which I don't understand (SHMMNI = (1<<_SHM_ID_BITS).

The docu recommends the following values:

SHMMAX 4294967295 (currently defined as 0x2000000) SHMMNI 100 (currently defined as (1<<_SHM_ID_BITS))

Could some please indicate, whether I need to changes these parameter at all (use the default values instead) and if, indicate how to define the new values.

Appreciate your help.
