IIOP error in oracle8i on linux

I just finished installing Oracle8i on Redhat 6.0 (whew!). I can connect with sqlnet run queries, etc. However, when I try to compile the helloworld ejb example included in the demo.tar file I get a Cannot connect to service: sess_iiop://localhost:2481:<sid> during the deployjb. I have IIOP in listener.ora and am at a loss as to why this occurs. Any ideas.
