Maui,

I'm not at work, so I can't check on WebDB for you, but I have helped folks through the 8i install and I must caution you that it is messy. The installer does not run netasst or dbassist for you like our other ports. If you try to install with a dba group other than "dba", you can't connect to the database. The installer updates config.s rather than config.c in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib. This means you have to move config.o to another file name and remake config.o and remake ioracle. If the installer won't start, there is a good chance you a bad piece of media. The install guide is also on the cdrom ... use it! you will never survive the install otherwise ... be careful with the printed install guide .... check the part number. If the install guide is version 1 (you'll see a -01 at the end of the part number), there are some typos and documentation bugs in there. You should see version -02 or -03 on the cdrom.

Hope this helps!

:-)Jack
