I realized this morning that when I edited the init.ora file and entered a value
for log_archive_duplex_dest and on exiting I didn't save the file correctly and therefore the line was not saved. That explain why the write of the archive log didn't work to the duplex location because none was defined. This morning I corrected that and it worked as stated.
