Yes, it's true, but take it with a grain of salt. When a product is "desupported", that means that Oracle will no longer create bug fixes and patches; it doesn't mean that when you call them for help, they'll say "sorry". They will encourage you to upgrade, but they won't deny support until the release is just so old that the support staff doesn't have any expertise in it anymore. For instance, after 12/31/1999, no more patches will be back-ported to 7.3.3.
