rollback segment "NEEDS RECOVERY"

Is there anything I can do for this? All my tablespaces are online, and I have taken the rollback segment out of the init.ora that was original with the message in order to start up the database. From what I read SMON will come through and clean up the rollback segments, I'm I correct? There isn't any recover command that I can issue that might help? If I am waiting for SMON, is it alright for people to access the database without the worry of losing information?
