I'm not familiar with the Unix world, but in the NT world the purpose of Orainst is to install Oracle software. It only creates a database as a convenience as part of the initial install. To create additional instances/databases you will need to use Instance Manager (if Oracle for Unix has that) or else write scripts and work from the command line.
