No more data to read from socket

I've noticed a few people have had this problem in the past. It seemed to be attributed in most cases to the expiry time of a connection set in the sqlnet.ora file. But I have set it to 10 minutes and it still comes back in about 3 seconds with the error "No more data to read from socket". I have also noticed noone has posted re 8i (we are on 8i release 8.1.5) but I have seen a number of people have posted for 8.03 or 8.04.

Ok, I am using JDK 1.2.2 but I have tried with JDK 1.2 and 1.1.8. It is on Oracle 8i release 8.1.5. And I am using the latest JDBC thin driver release from the Oracle Web site.

Has anybody solved this problem other than changing the connection expiry time?
