Oracle8.0 and Oracle8i are available for Linux on Intel hardware. You can run Solaris on Sun SPARC hardware (best choice) or Intel hardware. HP only runs HP-UX and RS-6000's only run AIX.

Well, it's debatable and there are sensible exceptions, but in general my opinion is that 2-3 big servers (Dev, QA, and Prod) are much, much better than a bunch of little ones (a management nightmare).

Well, somewhere between $20,000 and $20,000,000 depending on your requirements. :=) It takes weeks, sometimes months, of analysis to correctly size a system (and then it's usually still wrong).
