I'de like to say I have vast experience with Solaris, but I don't. I think I can however give you some info to help you make your decision. Raw devices are faster, but not as much as you would think. 3% to 15%. NT would benefit the least from RAW while AIX the most.

Raw partitions are a real real real pain to work with. If you have a VLDB (ie > 200GB) you might consider them. Other than that, its's probably more trouble than it's worth.

DO NOT USE RAID 5. USE RAID 0+1 for performance.
