Check out Quest software's Schema manager product. Embarcadero software also has a product to do this. We use DBArtisan for sybase, oracle, db2, and (don't laugh) but we have occasion to do some Microsoft sql work...... (I'm so ashamed)

Quest allows you to compare to schemas and even version them. It's feature for comparing packages and procedures is very nice. I little cumbersome, but much much much much better than diffing to extracts. We have done both ;-) Just playing around with Embarcadero's product. Looks good also.
