ORA-07318 sgadef.dbf

I'm trying to connect from SQL*Plus 3.3.4 on a HPUX 10.2 server to an 8.1.5 database on NT4 SP5.

After changing the ORACLE_SID environmental variable, I launch SQL*Plus and get the following error when I try to log on.

ERROR: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-07318: smsget: open error when opening sgadef.dbf file. HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory.

I'm able to signon with SQL*Plus to a local database and do a successful conn scott/tiger_at_nt8i. I'm also able to create and use a database link from the local database to the 8.1.5 database.

Why is SQL*Plus looking for the address of a remote SGA on launch?

Thanks for any help. Received on Fri Aug 06 1999 - 12:20:24 CDT
