Hi Charles,

BEFORE YOU START(what I wish I would have done) take a day or so and browse the documentation that comes with the products. I found it to be very helpful in fixing problems I wouldn't have had if I read it first.

   1. install 8i on the server. I'd suggest using the wizards - they make it easy. The Oracle Home for 8i is whatever name you choose if you don't want to go with the default name provided.
   2. install the client software on any machine you intend to use as a client. You don't need to install it on the server machine.
   3. OEM can be installed on the server or client. mine is on the server because I started with a standalone configuration. I have picked up in discussions that some believe it's better to not install it on the server. I have not had any problem discovering or managing the node on the same box as the OEM. As far as Oracle Home goes, just make sure you name the OEM Home directory differently than any other Oracle directory you may already have installed on that machine(like the server Home). OEM also works as a fat client or a thin client. See documentation.
   4. I haven't downloaded/installed WebDB yet, so I may call you some time for a walkthrough on that. Good Luck.
