Multiprocessing and Raid on Linux, Oracle-experiences anyone ?

Hello all!

I would appreciate your experiences and war stories about whether it pays to have more than one processor on a Linux box with about 512 M towards 2 G of memory.

This would be used for experimental data mining and computation intensive analysis projects; the databases would not be initially very large (under 500 M each I'd suppose). With these characteristics the workload will probably be quite processor-intensive, but if anyone actually has done something like this I'd like to hear about it.

Also, please share any pointers to comparisons of Oracle on Linux vs. Oracle on NT (single or multi-processor setting).

Tapio
