Size of archive logs

Are there any parameters to tune the size and frequency of the archive log files?

My LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST fills up with about 1Gb of archive log files in two days. The files are approx 512K in size and Oracle generates a couple every minute.

The database is only about 1Gb with a small number of users running a financial system. I assume that they would not be generating 500Mb of changes a day.
