8i listener problem

I'm running Oracle 8i on an NT server and I'm having trouble with the listener service. It doesn't start automatically on boot, and then allows me to start the service, but then stops it quickly. There not much other software installed on the machine, so unless it's a conflict with standard NT software, I don't think it's that. Any ideas on how to keep the listener running? Is there an order Oracle services need to be started in? Thanks for any help!
