If you don't have another box to test on, allow yourself a weekend or longer to do it. What you'll need to do is develop any tests you need beforehand to make sure there are no problems, then:

  1. Shutdown all 7.3 databases, listeners etc.
  2. Upgrade the OS
  3. Install the Oracle8 software
  4. Use whatever approach to migrate the databases that makes sense to you i.e. the migration utility, export/import etc.
  5. Test, test, test, test, test.

It may be worthwhile approaching the vendor to see if they can lend you a box to test this on first. I've seen it happen before with Digital in Australia.
