There are four workarounds:

  1. You can get around this error by installing directly from the CD-ROM into the "ORACLE_HOME" instead of from a staging area.
  2. You can copy the contents of the CD-ROM to a local directory. You can then run the Installer from the local directory, and when asked to install from "stage area" or "cdrom", choose "cdrom" and type the local directory path.
  3. Copy a known good "unix.rgs" file from another "ORACLE_HOME" of the same version. You will need to delete the line that pertains to the RDBMS product. Otherwise, the Installer will think the RDBMS product is already installed.
  4. If you are on Digital UNIX you should obtain patch 805694 from Oracle Support Services.
