I just had an interesting conversation with an IBM Mainframe
system programmer with no oracle experience. ( The OS/90
TSO/ISPF real mainframe style OS ) who
is getting an oracle database on an IBM mainframe.
Since I am from a UNIX /ORACLE background we were discussing the mainframe vs UNIX differences in possible administration and use of the database
It seemed to me that the install would be quite different because you probably have to do that sitting at a dedicated mainframe style terminal and deal with mainframe style file specifications.
It also seemed that in terms of using and administering the database it would not have to be very different since you could theoretically open a sqlnet connection from a windows or unix client and do things. You could also use dbms_job to schedule programs. This way you could avoid the JCL and the mainframe editors and all that.
Are my guesses accurate?
( If yo could respond to my email address as well as the newsgroup it would be most appreciated )
thanks.
