8.0.5 vs 8.1.5 (aka 8i)

I have the opportunity to begin building some new applications from the ground up. I am debating if I should install 8.0.5 or 8.1.5. I do not need to use many of the new features in 8i. My concern is how stable and reliable is 8.0.5 vs 8.1.5. My sense is that 8.1.5 still has many bugs to work out vs 8.0.5. The applications will be primarily read with some limited create and update. The target user population is in excess of 150,000 via the web.

Anyone with direct hands-on experience that can address the merits of 8.0.5 vs 8.1.5? Factual experience preferred to opinions.
