Hi.

After problem-free install, three strange things:

  1. the root.sh file and root.sh.old are both empty. in ORACLE_HOME/install/utl there is a root.sh which appears to be correct, so shouldn't i copy it up to the ORACLE_HOME dir? why did this happen? is this related to #2
  2. all files and directories in ORACLE_HOME and below were left as owned by group oinstall, not as group dba. why? i presume that i am supposed to perform the chown and chmod commands discussed under "Security" in the install manual to correct this situation? i did run the root.sh command, but it completed in about 1-2 seconds and did not seem to do much.

it seems generally that most directories should be owned by    oinstall group, but most files should be owned by dba group.    i have done my own chmod and chown commands to attempt to    make the ORACLE_HOME directory tree look as i believe it should.

most urgent:

3. i can now enter sqlplus OK and all seems fine, but

sqlplus HELP facility is not present! even though i can    log into scott/tiger or system/manager --either one.    i DID run helpins command, and the HELP tables ARE loaded    (SELECT * FROM HELP produces output) BUT "HELP <topic>"     responds with "SP2-0172: No HELP available."

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
