We're using a 450 with a single 248 Mhz processor 512MB main with the system spread out over 4x4.2 drives w/mirrors. The system only comes down when I take it down. We're using c code as the front end and in the process of developing java based apps. Solaris 7 is our next step, using 2.6 now. System load stays under 0.5(top/uptime), paging is minimal with roughly 50 users. The computer hosts standard web, fax, printer services as well as various cron/batching/maintanence scripts. I would recommend Sparc/Solaris over Windows/Intel until a 64-bit Intel/Amd/Cyrix processor comes out matched with decent i/o hardware and OS.
