Thanks everyone. I use Unix (Sun UltraEnterprise 450 with 4 cpus) and need to run three instances. It's fine for two of them to be at the same software level,
and I'll run them off the same ORACLE_HOME. The third instance, where I want to be able to test patches and upgrades, will need a different ORACLE_HOME.
