Oracle JDBC SendBatch and autoCommit

It appears that executing a sendBatch commits even when autoCommit is set to false?

Oracle's documentation is far from clear. Is the supposed to be the behavior? Does anyone have a way to work around this and still have the transaction wait for a commit()? (sendBatch is required to get a true rowcount).
