  1. It is based on an index.
  2. The same as everywhere else: 16 columns (Oracle7 at least)
  3. Or better yet, why?

If you actually need more than that in a primary key, I would sincerely question the design!

If you're wanting to "cover" a query of a wide table, consider index-only tables (Oracle8).
