We are on HPUX 11.0, 32-bit Oracle 8.0.5.1.0.

While attempting a full database import with 8.0.5 import utility from a 7.3.4 export, we have encountered a couple of problems.

The first was "end of file on communication channel" and we worked around it by NOT declaring a compatability level in init.ora.

The next one has us stumped. Import gives an ORA-4030 / IMP-0017 while attempting to import a comment on a view column. ORA-4030 means "out of process memory." It occurs after the kernel has granted the import process all available RAM on the server.

We tried 64-bit 8.0.5.1.0 as well. It also grabbed all the RAM and hung, although it never gave us an error.

Oracle has been working this one for over a month (way to go, guys) without a clue. We're supposed to export/import production next week. Any bug numbers or workarounds would be appreciated.
