Max number of tables in Oracle

I used to think that Oracle did locking at the table level, but I been corrected that locking is performed at the record level - hence I probably need to change my design. Either way, I was planning to have one table per customer in my database. Is there any limitations to the number of tables allowed in Oracle. What are the issues that I should be aware of.
Thanks,
