Joel,

I have Oracle 8.0.5 on Red Hat Linux 5.2 as well.

It sounds like a permission problem. You should not be asked to type in a password.

Ensure the user that is running svrmgrl is part of the "dba" group. Check in /etc/password and /etc/groups.

By the way start using "connect / as sysdba" rather than "connect internal". From Oracle 8.2 onwards "connect internal" will no longer work.
