Hi,

    IMHO, since you don't want mirroring you are better off without striping. This will give you better control over where redo logs, archive logs, data files, etc are located on your system. If you do decide to mirror you can get much better performance if you move your redo logs and your archive logs off of the mirror set. Also you really want your indexes in a different tablespace and on a different disk drive than the tables they index.

    You should go out and buy a copy of Kevin Loney's Oracle DBA Handbook, Oracle Press Osborne/McGraw-Hill (be sure to get the Oracle 8 version with the red and Grey cover).
