Problem with 8i install on solaris --Help

I am new to solaris.  I am trying to install 8i on a solaris x86 machine.
I go to the cdrom and type "./runInstaller" I get an error message to the
effect  syntax error near "(" .  Is there a script that the install is
trying to run?  Also how do I setup the mount points for oracle.  Any help
or suggestion where I can find help is appreciated. Please Help.
