Oracle 7/8 compatability

One of our clients has exported a schema from an Oracle 8 db but when I try to import it into an Oracle 7.3 db I get

IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
IMP-00021: operating system error - error code (dec 17, hex 0x11)
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

which doesn't surprise me really.
I'm assuming that there is some kind of compatibility flag they can set when exporting so that Oracle 7.3 will recognise the export file. Am I right on this one - do any of you know what this is or how you can export from Oracle 8 and import into Oracle 7.

Thanks
