Oracle Export

In the past, my backup/recovery procedures have consisted of operating system backups. I have used Export/Import to move data to Test/Devl instances of databases. Yesterday, however, I did a FULL export of a database that shows up as a little over 3 Gb in Oracle Storage Manager, yet the actual file that export creates is about 21 Mb. I can explain away some of the difference with extent size and pct. free/used settings (I think), but 3 Gb to 21 Mb????

Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks!
