If you are going to tape, then

- cpio
- tar
- ufsdump (Solaris)
- bru (Irix)
- Legato Networker

and an assortment of other tools will no problem with 2G (as long as you have enough tape...)

To go to disk, then use the compress or split options mentioned by other posters...
