Net8 remote connection

I have installed Oracle 8.0.4 on a Sun Solaris 2.6 Unix system. Locally, I can access the database (using SQL*Plus, svrmgrl, etc.). I am now trying to set up my client to access the database. I have SQL*Net properly installed on my PC. I can TNSPING the database instance. But when I try to access the database (using sql*plus, sql worksheet, etc.), I get a message saying thta the Oracle instance is not available. But the database is up and running. I've checked the /var/opt/oratab file and that's ok. I know that the listener is up and running and I'm trying to access the proper port. All that checks out. The only thing I can find out is when I type in the command 'adapter', it doesn't show any adapters running on the server. No BEQ, IPC, or TCP/IP adapter. I've re-installed Net8 and the TCIP/IP adapter with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian Peasland
