I don't think keeping MSSQL with Oracle8i together is a problem, but just one thing I would recommend that is to stop the service of MSSQL whenever you are doing Oracle test.
The basic requirement of Oracle is very low, it said in the documentation somewhere around in their site since you can tune the memory usage by those initial parameter for keeping the data in the memory or on the disk.
