Quite right, but here's the kicker. Every time I've seen comments like this, including in manuals, training courses etc., I have to laugh, because how do you really, really verify the backup has worked? Only by restoring the backup and making sure the database starts. How many of us do this to test the backup has worked? I'd venture to say none!
