Hi Mike,
Backup only protects against power outage, disk failure etc.
As during backup the database is being considered as a logical whole, it
doesn't protect against users.
If someone accidentally drops a table or deletes a few rows, and you don't
have exports, you will be forced to recover them using point in time
recovery, which can be very time-consuming, and will block everyone from
using the database.
