Oracle uses async I/O on Solaris as default. An Oracle consultant told me that there is a bug (or feature) in Solaris 2.6 which causes some performance problems on systems with heavy i/o load. If You have such a system with a lot of i/o than You maybe should make some tests before You do Your upgrade. We use 'disk_asynch_io = false' (the parameter has a different name in Oracle 7 but I don't know what - we use Release 8.0.5.1.0) as a workaround of this problem.
If You have only problems with the 2GB filesystem limit, You can add a new datafile to the tablespaces and I'm not shure that Oracle supports files bigger than 2 GB on Solaris 2.6. If Oracle supports bigger files You should check if Your backup software supports it also.
